Annual SeminarThe 2008 Iowa Infragard Annual Seminar will occur on October 30th at the FBL Financial Group (FBL) in West Des Moines, IA. This seminar will be an all-day event, and is open to members as well as register guests (based on space availability). There is no cost to attend this seminar, but pre-registration is required. Our annual seminar headliner will be Frank Abagnale, Jr. Mr. Abagnale is a former check confidence trickster, forger and impostor who, for five years in the 1960s, passed bad checks worth about $2.5 million in 26 countries. During this time, he used at least eight aliases to cash bad checks. Currently he runs Abagnale and Associates, a financial fraud consultancy company. His life story provided the inspiration for the feature 2002 film, Catch Me if You Can, based on his ghostwritten biography of the same name. Mr. Abagnale present to us for a period of two hours during our seminar. The other confirmed speakers include Dr. Phyllis Schneck, who is the Vice President, Research Integration, Secure Computing Corporation and is the Founding Chairman of the InfraGard National Members Alliance. The title of Dr. Schneck’s presentation is: Information Sharing: “A Matter of Trust.” Dr. Schneck’s presentation will explore the current state of “information sharing,” the challenges we face, and the successful components, such as InfraGard and the role of the local InfraGard chapters, to be leveraged forward as we bring back the trust for a more secure nation, one local community at a time. We will also hear from Dutch Geisinger from Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management who will provide us with an update about Iowa’s Critical Asset Protection Plan. A.J. Mumm, the Polk County Emergency Manager, will share lessons learned as a result of the Barton Solvents Chemical incident (fires and explosions) that occurred earlier this year. Finally, FBI Special Agent Brian Endrizal will be presenting about the improvement of FBI’s Intelligence Program known as the Strategic Execution Team. All Iowa InfraGard members, and others who may be interested in attending what is sure to be a spectacular event, should e-mail Marc Quibell, who is the Iowa InfraGard Programs Committee Chairman, at the RSVP link below. |
